From Music Industry to Nail Art Pioneer
My journey began as an artist who moved to Los Angeles after college to work in the music industry.
As an EDM enthusiast and frequent raver, I wanted stunning nails for events but found professional nail art was either unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
I started painting my own nails, eventually experimenting with blank press-ons I ordered online. What began as a DIY solution soon turned into a passion project, and when I listed my creations on Etsy, demand quickly grew.
Wholesale orders followed, and I soon realized this could become much bigger. Just before the pandemic, I transitioned into manufacturing—perfect timing, as lockdowns caused the press-on nail market to explode.
Since then, Rave Nailz has grown into my full-time business.
The Press-On Revolution: Easy Application, No Chipping
One of the most appealing aspects of press-on nails is their simplicity and durability. Unlike salon experiences that require UV lights and specialized equipment, my method is straightforward:
-
Buff your natural nails with a mini file
-
Swipe with acetone to dehydrate
-
Apply a small drop of glue
-
Press on and hold for 10 seconds
-
File the edges for a custom fit
It’s so easy—I’ve even done it in an Uber. And unlike polish, press-ons don’t chip, typically lasting two to three weeks with proper application. For best results, I recommend applying them right before bed to maximize staying power.
Standing Out in a Saturated Beauty Space
The press-on nail industry has seen explosive growth, but what sets Rave Nailz apart is authenticity.
I didn’t come from a marketing background—I’m an artist who created Rave Nailz from genuine passion. While many competitors operate like “fast fashion for nails,” my brand is rooted in artistry, authenticity, and quality.
This shows in every detail, from elevated packaging to exclusive collaborations, and most importantly, nails that are durable, natural-looking, and truly unique.
Balancing Creative Expression with Commercial Success
Growth has meant finding balance between artistic vision and broad appeal. For example, our French Twist Collection resonated with mainstream retailers, but not as much with our core fans.
This experience helped shape our strategy for an upcoming launch in college bookstores, where collections will be divided into mainstream, artsy, and what I call “insane style.”
By doing the classics better while still showcasing bold, artistic sets, we’re able to reach new customers without losing our edge.
The Witchy Aesthetic: My Signature Style
One of my favorite collections is our occult-inspired line, particularly the Cast the Spell set. Designed with runes and sigils I created myself, it embodies my witchy, spiritual side.
No one else in the market is creating nails like these, and they’ve become a signature part of the Rave Nailz brand. This aesthetic reflects both my personal identity and our unique positioning in the beauty space.
Conclusion
What began as a DIY solution for festival nails has transformed into a brand that merges artistry, practicality, and authentic subcultural roots.
As more people discover the benefits of press-ons—durability, affordability, convenience—I believe they’ll become the preferred choice over traditional salon nails.
